Moumita Acharya, HR Coordinator, Dean's Office
I am originally from India, and moved to the United States with my husband and our four-month-old daughter to support my husband's postdoctoral position in 2014. As he explored opportunities at CUNY, Columbia University, Penn State University, and ultimately CU 麻豆影院, our journey brought us to 麻豆影院 in 2022. Seeing my husband work in higher education inspired me to pursue a career in higher education as well.
I joined CU 麻豆影院 in 2023 in a temporary role after resigning from a full-time position in a healthcare facility. After exploring two opportunities within the university, I was excited to join CEAS as an HR coordinator in June 2025. CEAS has a welcoming and inclusive environment, and from day one, I experienced a strong sense of community and support.
What is an ordinary moment in your life that brings you joy?
An ordinary moment in my life that brings me joy is being with my family. Seeing our daughter's achievements, even the little things, makes me incredibly happy. Hearing about their progress from their teachers during school conferences brings me so much pride and joy, whether it鈥檚 a big milestone or something as simple as them learning to do a backflip on the monkey bars. Those everyday moments mean the most to me.
What has been your favorite work or personal project so far?
I love doing crafts. For my younger daughter鈥檚 third birthday, I made Peppa Pig-themed cutouts entirely by hand, and many guests thought they were store-bought. My daughter still talks about her Peppa Pig birthday, which makes it extra special for me. I enjoy creating crafts with my daughters, and our next project is painting blank canvas bags. My older daughter plans to sell them at a school holiday market in December to help raise funds for the school, and I am excited to work on this project together with her.

Where is the best place you have traveled to and why?
I have been lucky to have seen the Taj Mahal twice so far. Every time I visited, I was amazed by the incredible engineering behind it and the visionary thinking that created something truly larger than life.
What鈥檚 something most people don鈥檛 know about you?
I love to dance. For a long time, I was the person standing in the audience, watching performers and thinking, 鈥淚 wish I could dance like them.鈥 I never had the chance until I met a group of women who perform at various Indian cultural events. I started rehearsing with them and gave my first performance in 2024. Since then, I have performed three times, and it has been an incredibly joyful and empowering experience for me. 鈥淚t鈥檚 never too late to explore your abilities.鈥
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
My father always says, 鈥淵ou can鈥檛 be happy if your neighbors are not happy.鈥 When I was in my twenties, I didn鈥檛 fully understand what he meant. But now, I truly understand his words and try to live by them.
