1L Spotlight: Juan Aguilera

With the academic year quickly approaching, Colorado Law is looking forward to welcoming the incoming class of new students. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of our incredible 1Ls through a series of brief profiles! Next up, we have Juan Aguilera.Ìý

Juan was born in Michoacan, Mexico but grew up in Southern California between L.A. and the central valley. Prior to law school, he earned a B.A. in biochemistry and worked in labs focused on synthesizing DNA/RNA.Ìý

What inspired you to pursue a law degree?Ìý Ìý

JA: My pursuit of a law degree is influenced by my interest in shaping the future of data privacy and by my desire to challenge myself professionally.Ìý

What are your hobbies outside of work and school?Ìý

JA: I am a big fan of the typical Colorado hobbies, primarily skiing, hiking, and camping. However, I also like to spend time on creative hobbies like drawing and painting. Ìý

What is your educational background and/or what was your career before deciding to come to law school?Ìý

JA: Prior to law school I had earned a B.A. in biochemistry after which I worked in labs focused on synthesizing DNA/RNA. I ultimately decided that I did not want to pursue that career path and pivoted towards a career that better suits me by pursuing a law degree. Ìý

Why did you choose Colorado law?ÌýÌý

JA: Colorado law has many strengths which have drawn me to it. Including its academic rigor that will help me develop professionally, talented and engaging faculty, as well as a short drive to the great little ski area of Eldora.Ìý

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming academic year?ÌýÌý

JA: I am looking forward to engaging in the first step towards realizing my longtime dream of becoming an attorney and to the personal/professional growth that will come with it.Ìý
