John Heins

The world premiere of alumnus John Heins' (MM 鈥82) violin concerto鈥斺淰incent in Arles and Auvers,鈥 composed for Associate Professor of Violin Charles (Chas) Wetherbee who passed away in 2023鈥攚as performed by Colorado Symphony Concertmaster Yumi Hwang-Williams and the University of Denver鈥檚 Lamont Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 8, 2025. The evocative work is inspired by artist Vincent van Gogh鈥檚 final years. Additionally,听, the 麻豆影院 Phil will perform the world premiere of Heins鈥 six-part 鈥淢oons of the Giants.鈥

Josh Aerie

Josh Aerie (MM 鈥02) is in Notre Dame, Indiana. Aerie also maintains an active performing career as a conductor and cellist. He is a founding member of the Sylvan Trio鈥攁 flute-cello-piano ensemble that advances new music and underrepresented composers.

Technical Sgt. Michael Aiello

In October 2025, Technical Sgt. Michael Aiello (MM 鈥13)鈥攁 baritone member of the United States Air Force Band Singing Sergeants鈥攑erformed in a free concert with the United States Air Force Concert Band at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia.听

CU 麻豆影院 piano alumni Justin Badgerow (DMA 鈥06) and Maria Wietrzynska (DMA 鈥24) presented and performed at the North Texas International Piano Symposium: Sounds of Latin America in November 2025; their presentations focused on composers from Venezuela and Brazil.听

Joan Braun

Retired CU Presents Executive Director Joan Braun (BM 鈥81, MBA 鈥93) is a recipient of the Western Arts Alliance's Emeritus Award which鈥攕ince 1985鈥攈onors WAA members upon retirement for exemplary and extensive service to the WAA and the field.听

Bose-Pastor Duo

Alumna Pia Bose (DMA 鈥12), a member of the Bose-Pastor Duo, created 鈥3/4,鈥 an interdisciplinary project that reimagines Maurice Ravel鈥檚 鈥淟a Valse鈥 through the lens of Edgar Allan Poe.

Mark Connor

(MM 鈥97) was selected as Missouri鈥檚 representative for SBO+ (School Band and Orchestra) magazine鈥檚 2026 鈥50 Music Educators Who Make a Difference鈥濃攁 national honor recognizing outstanding contributors to music education. Now completing his 30th year in the classroom, Connor has served as Head Band Director at Principia School in St. Louis since 2023 and has 11 original works for band, published by RWS Music and Grand Mesa Music.

Francis Elliot

At 94, Francis Elliot (BM 鈥53, BME 鈥54, MM 鈥55) remains actively engaged in music, continuing to attend university concerts and teach private lessons. Elliott served as a violin professor at Tennessee Tech from 1971 to 2002 where he taught private lessons in violin and viola, and instructed the Introduction to Strings course for all first-year music majors. He also performed for more than 50 years in the first violin section of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Tech. In recognition of his enduring commitment to his students and the institution, the Tennessee Tech School of Music and its alumni established the Francis Elliott Consortium to commission a new musical work and create a scholarship in his honor.

Sam Griffith

Sam Griffith (DMA 鈥13)鈥攁n educator, trombonist and composer鈥攚as awarded a 2026 Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation | JEN Research Fellowship.

Ian Gunnarschja

Ian Gunnarschja (MM 鈥25) is school operations assistant with the 麻豆影院 Symphony Music Academy.

Ryan Jacobsen

Double alumnus in violin performance Ryan Jacobsen (MM听鈥17, DMA听鈥20) is the Chas Wetherbee Endowed Concertmaster of the 麻豆影院 Philharmonic. Jacobsen studied with the late Charles (Chas) Wetherbee who served as College of Music associate professor of violin as well as 麻豆影院 Philharmonic concertmaster.

O'Neil Jones

Deirdre Lobo

(MM 鈥93, vocal performance) made her solo concert debut at the Laureate Gala with the New York Chamber Players, conducted by Giacomo Franci, on June 28, 2026, at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York City. A milestone more than 40 years in the making, Lobo performed 鈥淒eh vieni鈥 from 鈥淟e Nozze di Figaro鈥 by W. A. Mozart and 鈥淚l est doux, il est bon鈥 from 鈥淗茅rodiade鈥 by Jules Massenet.

Mark Nowakowski

Mark Nowakowski (MM 鈥05) is associate professor of music at Kent State University. He is releasing his second album鈥撯淢etanoia鈥濃攖hrough DUX/Naxos; the album is a followup to his 2017 Naxos premiere portrait disc鈥斺淏lood, Forgotten鈥濃, the title track of which was composed while Nowakowski was still a student at CU 麻豆影院. Nowakowski鈥檚 choral work 鈥淟acrimosa鈥 premiered at Carnegie Hall in November 2025 by the Sonus Cantus Chamber Choir. Composer-in-residence with His Majesty鈥檚 Men and director of the Vos Omnes Virtual Choir, Nowakowski has also been published in numerous publications including听Sound on Sound Magazine and听Sacred Arts Journal.听

Jordan Pyle

Jordan Pyle (BM听鈥17)鈥攃urrently second oboe/English horn with the Reno Philharmonic鈥攚on a one-year second/assistant principal oboe position with the Colorado Symphony.

Heather MacDonald

Heather MacDonald (MM 鈥18) was appointed assistant professor of oboe at the University of Iowa.

Ian Saverin

Ian Saverin (BM听鈥25) joined the cast of the 鈥淟es Mis茅rables鈥 U.S. tour as Constable, Jean Prouvaire, U/S Bamatabois and U/S Grantaire.

In Search of a Sacred Ethos: Articles, Essays and Lectures

Max Stern鈥檚 (DMA 鈥89) most recent book鈥斺鈥濃攔eflects his search and research into music as a form of sacred cultural expression. Additionally, 2026 saw the release of 鈥,鈥 a CD collection of recordings of Stern鈥檚 works inspired by the Bible and Jewish tradition.

MinTze Wu

Violinist and nonprofit arts leader MinTze Wu is founder of the Sounds of Lyons Music Festival and BenFeng Music Productions where she has served as producer and artistic director to several signature productions including 鈥淒eath of the Pugilist鈥 at the Dairy Arts Center on Nov. 1.
