Alumna Ellen TeSelle Boal (BM ’53) passed away on March 12, 2025. She was a Boettcher Scholar who also earned a Master of Music and PhD at Washington University in St. Louis. Boal taught and played cello and viola da gamba in various colleges, orchestras and ensembles; published articles on early music; and served as a development associate with NPR.��

Karen Sorin Diamond passed away on June 25, 2025 as a result of injuries sustained in the firebombing attack on �鶹ӰԺ’s Pearl Street Mall on June 1. A University Women's Club�� (2019), she also served as a design consultant in the 2010 renovation of the College of Music’s Grusin Music Hall. Additionally, Diamond actively supported the �鶹ӰԺ Philharmonic, the Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts and many more community groups and campus programs.��

Carol (“Caryl”) Fuchs Kassoy, a resident of �鶹ӰԺ since 1969 and a dedicated community leader who profoundly shaped the arts and culture landscape of �鶹ӰԺ, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2025 after a brave struggle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. Kassoy’s extensive volunteerism included serving on the college’s Music Advisory Board and helping to establish the Advisory Board of our American Music Research Center, serving as chair.

Alumnus Bill Mooney (A&S ’58) passed away on Jan. 15, 2026. He brought creativity and inspiration to countless performances as stage director for the CU �鶹ӰԺ Summer Opera/Lyric Theatre Festival. In 2007, the University of Colorado Board of Regents presented Mooney the Distinguished Service Award and an honorary doctorate.��
