Understanding fraternity affiliation at CU 麻豆影院
If your student is interested in joining a fraternity, CU 麻豆影院 offers opportunities to explore organizations that build connection, community and belonging.听
Families may also find it helpful to know that fraternities in 麻豆影院 are not all structured the same way.听
In 麻豆影院, there are both university-affiliated fraternities and unaffiliated fraternities that operate independently from CU 麻豆影院. Understanding the difference can help your student make an informed decision about where they want to build community and find a sense of belonging.听
CU 麻豆影院 encourages students who are interested in fraternity life to join an affiliated fraternity because these organizations are connected to the university and supported through Fraternity & Sorority Life.听
What does 鈥渁ffiliated鈥 mean?听
University-affiliated fraternities are officially designated as recognized Greek student organizations (RGSOs) and are members of the CU Interfraternity Council (CUIFC). These organizations agree to follow university policies and expectations designed to support student success, leadership and well-being.听
Some fraternities in the 麻豆影院 community have chosen not to affiliate with the university or are no longer recognized. These organizations operate independently and are not overseen by CU 麻豆影院.听
While students are free to make their own decisions about joining organizations, affiliated fraternities provide students with the benefits of university advising, education and support.听
Why does CU 麻豆影院 recommend affiliated fraternities?听
Affiliation helps create a safer and more supportive experience for students.听
Affiliated fraternities participate in programs and education that help members develop as students and leaders while promoting healthy chapter environments.听
These organizations have access to resources and support such as:听
- Hazing prevention education听听
- Alcohol and other drug harm reduction programs听听
- Leadership development opportunities听听
- Academic support and chapter grade reporting听听
- Guidance from Fraternity & Sorority Life staff听听听
These resources are designed to help chapters build positive communities where students can thrive.听
Helping your student make an informed choice听
Families play an important role in helping students ask thoughtful questions before joining any organization.听
Encourage your student to learn about a chapter鈥檚 values, expectations and membership experience. If they鈥檙e interested in fraternity life, attending the university鈥檚 fall recruitment process is the best way to meet members of affiliated fraternities, ask questions and determine which chapter feels like the right fit.听
Choosing an affiliated fraternity also helps ensure your student is joining an organization that works closely with the university to support student well-being and leadership development.听
Health, safety and hazing prevention听
Creating a safe and healthy fraternity experience is a shared responsibility.听
Because unaffiliated fraternities are not connected to the university, they do not participate in many of the education programs, prevention initiatives and ongoing support available to affiliated chapters.听
CU 麻豆影院 is committed to preventing hazing and encourages all students, families and community members to learn how to recognize concerning behaviors and report hazing if they see or experience it.听
If you鈥檙e concerned about changes in your student鈥檚 behavior or believe they may have experienced hazing or another harmful situation, encourage them to seek support. Families can also report concerns to Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution, so the university can help connect students with appropriate resources.听
