We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, to students whose COF lifetime limit was extended on their behalf.

Dear [first],

We noticed that you've exhausted your allotted 145 lifetime hours of COF funding toward your degree.

On your behalf, we've granted you an institutional extension that allows your COF funding to continue through Summer 2027. You don't need to take any additional action at this time. This semester's COF hours will be applied to your bill within 48 to 72 hours.

To Apply for Additional COF Hours

If you need COF hours beyond Summer 2027, you may submit a Colorado Commission on Higher Education waiver request to ask for additional hours.

To Postpone This Extension

To postpone this COF lifetime limit extension until your next semester of enrollment, email the COF support team by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.

Please be aware that if you postpone the extension, you'll be responsible for paying the portion of this semester's tuition typically covered by COF funds.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class:

Between now and Aug. 28 at 5 p.m., the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically. If you're enrolled automatically, you'll receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.
Between Aug. 29 and Sept. 7, contact the department offering the class to see if their policies allow them to enroll you manually. If not, you may want to remain on the waitlist so you're eligible for course reservation, which can guarantee you a seat the next time the course is offered.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, waitlists are canceled. If you still aren't enrolled, you'll lose access to the class's online materials and be removed from the class roster. If you're eligible for course reservation, we'll email you a confirmation of your eligibility at the start of the next course reservation period.

These dates apply to Main Campus classes that follow the full-semester start and end dates (Aug. 20–Dec. 11, 2026). For other calendars, see our academic calendar webpage.*

Monday, Sept. 7

Labor Day holiday (no classes; university closed)

Tuesday, Sept. 8

Waitlists are canceled. Students still on the waitlist lose access to that class's online materials, but may be eligible to reserve a seat in the course the next time it's offered.

Thursday, Oct. 8

Midsemester reading day (no classes).

Tuesday, Oct. 27

Last day for class withdrawal; W notations will apply.
Last day to change pass/fail grade mode.

Monday, Nov. 23–Friday, Nov. 27

Fall break (no classes; university closed Nov. 26 & 27).

Friday, Dec. 4

Last day of classes.
Classes follow a Monday schedule.
Last day to withdraw from the semester.
Last day to submit the late class withdrawal petition form.

Saturday, Dec. 5–Sunday, Dec. 6

End of term reading days (no classes or exams).

Monday, Dec. 7–Friday, Dec. 11

Final exams.

Your College Opportunity Fund (COF) stipend can't be applied to your bill because you didn't include your Social Security number (SSN) in your COF application.

COF was created by the Colorado Legislature to pay a portion of total in-state tuition for eligible undergrads. There's no limit to the number of students who receive it, and you never have to pay it back.

To Correct Your Record

To resolve this error, follow our step-by-step instructions to update your record by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2026.

Do not email anything containing your SSN. Doing so could put you at high risk for identity theft.

We'll securely send your information to College Assist. Once the error is resolved, follow our instructions to authorize COF by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2026.

Attend the first class meeting and tell the instructor you're on the waitlist. They may be able to advise you on your chances of being enrolled from the waitlist and whether you should continue to attend the class meetings.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class:

Between now and Aug. 28, the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically. If you’re enrolled automatically, you’ll receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.
