Dec. 19 declared Dr. Dick Jessor Day
The Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº City Council has declared Dec. 19, 2024, Dr. Dick Jessor Day in honor of Jessor’s service as a pillar of CU Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº, the behavioral science community and the city of Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº for nearly 75 years.
The declaration, which was signed by Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº Mayor Aaron Brockett, in part reads:
"In celebration of Dr. Jessor's 100th birthday on November 24th, 2024; the ribbon cutting ceremony for the renaming of the Institute of Behavioral Science Building in his name on January 28th, 2025; and a return trip to Iwo Jima in March of 2025 to meet fellow U.S. Marine and Japanese survivors, and to honor those who never left the island alive, the Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº City Council declares December 19th, 2024, as Dr. Dick Jessor Day in honor of Dr. Jessor's incredible contributions to the city. The City Council recognizes Dr. Jessor's unwavering commitment to improving our world and encourages all Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº community members to look to him as an example of the service, integrity, compassion, and dedication that make the world a better, brighter place."
Jessor, a distinguished professor emeritus of behavioral science served on the CU Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº faculty for 70 years before retiring in 2021. He co-founded and later directed the university’sÌý.
