CU �鶹ӰԺ is launching the new Community Belonging Awards, which will be given annually to honor and recognize people whose everyday actions help others on campus feel seen, valued and supported.

Announced by Chancellor Justin Schwartz in his State of the Campus address, the Community Belonging Awards were established at the recommendation of CU Student Government, with the endorsement of the �鶹ӰԺ Faculty Assembly, Staff Council and the Graduate and Professional Student Government. Together, they reflect a shared commitment to recognizing the meaningful ways belonging is built across our campus community.

“Belonging shapes student success, employee well‑being and the strength of our entire community,” said Schwartz. “These awards recognize individuals whose leadership and care create lasting impact, not just for individuals, but for CU �鶹ӰԺ as a whole.”

Each year, four awards will recognize individuals whose actions foster belonging at CU �鶹ӰԺ, with each cohort including:

One undergraduate student.
One graduate or professional student.
One staff member.
One faculty member.

Each recipient will receive a one‑time $5,000 award, underscoring the university’s commitment to valuing and rewarding community‑building work. The inaugural awards will be presented in spring 2026.

Recipients will be selected based on demonstrated, meaningful impact on fostering belonging within a specific CU �鶹ӰԺ community or across campus more broadly. This work may include efforts that:

Strengthen connection and inclusion.
Advance social justice.
Support one or more of CU �鶹ӰԺ’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

“By lifting up this work, the Community Belonging Awards shine a light on the practices that help our campus thrive,” Schwartz said. “If you know someone whose actions are making a real difference, or if you’re doing this work yourself, I encourage you to submit a nomination and help recognize the people who strengthen belonging at CU �鶹ӰԺ every day.”

How to nominate

Know a student, staff member or faculty colleague whose actions help others feel welcomed and supported? Nominate them and help celebrate the community builders whose impact strengthens CU �鶹ӰԺ.

Who can be nominated?
Any current CU �鶹ӰԺ undergraduate student, graduate or professional student, staff member or faculty member in good standing.

Who can nominate?
Any current CU �鶹ӰԺ faculty member, staff member, or student. Self‑nominations are welcome.

What’s required?
A nomination statement describing the nominee’s impact.
Two letters of support from CU �鶹ӰԺ community members other than the nominator.

Deadline: March 13

Award impact:
Four awards annually
$5,000 one‑time award per recipient
Campuswide recognition announced in April 2026

Each spring the �鶹ӰԺ Faculty Assembly (BFA) awards up to nine members of the �鶹ӰԺ Faculty Senate with awards for faculty excellence, recognizing their outstanding work.

The award nominators come from CU �鶹ӰԺ faculty peers and administrators who recognize the hard work the nominees put into their classrooms, research, community and beyond. Up to three awards in each category will be granted for excellence in the areas of teaching; leadership and service; and research, scholarly and creative work.

The chancellor provides financial support for these prestigious awards, and a ceremony in the spring recognizes the winners and features a keynote by the Hazel Barnes awardee for that year. Each winner receives a $5,000 monetary prize, along with a commemorative engraved plaque and gift bag.

Nomination packets may be delivered in electronic form as a single PDF file. Only complete packets will be accepted. Nominations open Dec. 1 and close Jan. 31. Please visit the BFA website for complete nomination instructions.

Fernando Rosario-Ortiz, interim vice chancellor for academic resource management, announced today the official launch of the search for the next dean of University Libraries. The university invites nominations and applications for this leadership role by Jan. 2, 2026.

Rosario-Ortiz expressed appreciation to all who participated in the engagement sessions in October, noting the feedback gathered was instrumental in shaping the position profile for the new dean. “The insights shared by the libraries community and our deans helped us define the qualities and priorities we seek in the next dean,” he said.

How to nominate, apply for University Libraries dean

“We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, engaged and empathetic leader with a deep commitment to personnel and constituent care,” Rosario-Ortiz said. “The next dean of University Libraries at CU �鶹ӰԺ will be charged with creating a forward-looking and collaborative vision for the libraries’ future, while fostering a human-centered, inclusive and transparent organizational culture.”

Finalists for the position will be announced and invited to campus during the spring semester for presentations and meetings with a variety of university constituents. Rosario-Ortiz anticipates the new University Libraries dean will be appointed in late spring 2026.

University Libraries play a central role in supporting research, teaching and learning across campus. This search presents an opportunity to shape the future of library services and resources in alignment with the university’s academic mission and its institutional priority of fostering excellence in research and creative work.

Chancellor Justin Schwartz invites nominations for the 2025 Chancellor’s Employee of the Year Award. This annual award is presented to CU �鶹ӰԺ staff in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional job performance and distinguished contributions to the campus community. Award criteria include job performance, leadership, service and interpersonal skills.

The award includes a prize of $5,000 (after tax) and a commemorative gift. The 2025 awards will be presented at a ceremony hosted by the chancellor.

Eligibility

All eligible CU �鶹ӰԺ classified and university staff may be nominated for this award.
Nominees must have been employed by CU �鶹ӰԺ for at least three years by the nomination deadline and must not have received any corrective and/or disciplinary actions within the last five years.
Employees may only receive this award once during their campus career.
University officers (i.e, deans, associate vice chancellors and above) are not eligible for this award, and nominations will not be considered.

Nomination information

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the campus community (staff, faculty or student) who has firsthand knowledge about the nominee. Nominations should be submitted using the online nomination form.

Each nominee should have:

One primary nomination submission.
Two additional supporting submissions by individuals other than the primary nominator.
At least one of the submissions must be from the nominee’s direct supervisor.

Nominations should address and provide specific examples of the following criteria:

Outstanding job performance

Demonstrates consistently outstanding performance in all areas of their job
Incorporates ethical practices and behaviors in all areas of their job

Exemplifies inspired leadership

Leads with integrity and in a way that contributes constructively to the department or campus’ mission
Identifies and addresses challenges that arise in an honest, thoughtful, and ethical manner
Works to advance diversity, equity and inclusion practices

Extraordinary service

Supports the unit, department, college, campus or surrounding community in unique ways that go beyond the employee’s job responsibilities

Exceptional interpersonal skills

Supports co-workers
Improves department/division/unit morale
Provides outstanding customer service
Consistently exhibits a positive attitude

To submit a nomination or supporting submission, please complete the electronic nomination form. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

No more than three total submissions will be accepted for each nominee.
Submissions will not be accepted past the nomination deadline.

The Center for Research Data and Digital Scholarship (CRDDS), in partnership with the Office for Public and Community-Engaged Scholarship (PACES), is seeking nominations for a showcase featuring projects that center one or more of the following components: open access, digital, public and/or community-engaged scholarship. Nominations of others, including of students, or self-nominations are welcome.

Representatives from selected nominations will be invited to present their work and learn from colleagues at the Dec. 5 CU �鶹ӰԺ Showcase of Open, Digital and Public Scholarship.

Eligibility criteria, the nomination form and other details are available on the CRDDS website. Nominations will be accepted until midnight on Sept. 22, and decisions will be made by Oct. 10.

Interim Vice Chancellor and Executive Vice Provost for Academic Resource Management Fernando Rosario-Ortiz announced today the launch of a national search for the next dean of University Libraries and is seeking nominations for the search advisory committee.

"The University Libraries are a key resource supporting faculty, staff and student success, and leadership is critical to the libraries succeeding in this mission," said Rosario-Ortiz. "We are seeking a distinguished scholar in library and information science and someone who will shape the future of our libraries and elevate their centrality to the student, faculty, staff and community experience.

"We also are looking for someone who can support the exceptionally talented faculty and staff within the libraries community and will play a key role in university academic leadership."

Key information

Search advisory committee chair: Sarah Jackson, dean of the division of social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, will lead the search committee in identifying and evaluating top candidates.

Executive search firm: An executive search firm is being engaged to assist with the search process and will collaborate with the search advisory committee to develop a comprehensive leadership profile and ensure a broad and inclusive candidate pool.

Call for nominations: Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations (or self-nominations) for the search advisory committee by Sept. 15.

Timeline: Rosario-Ortiz plans to select the committee in consultation with the committee chair by Sept. 26 and appoint a permanent dean during the spring semester.

Interim leadership: Former Provost Russell Moore appointed Tamara Sumner as the interim dean in late June, following Robert McDonald's departure to the University of Texas at Austin. Sumner will remain interim dean until a permanent dean has been appointed.

"Having a search committee that represents a cross-section of faculty, staff and students to advance qualified candidates for consideration is critical to the success of the search," said Rosario-Ortiz. "I encourage anyone interested in serving on the committee to submit nominations and self-nominations."

As a national search for CU �鶹ӰԺ's next dean of the University Libraries begins, volunteer or nominate someone by Sept. 15 to join the advisory committee.
