On The Map Scholarship

Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live and learn somewhere unique, and we want to help put Buffs on the map all around the globe! Starting Spring 2027, all students who study abroad in one of our eligible On The Map Scholarship countries will receive:

  • $1000 for a summer program
  • $2000 for a semester program
  • $4000 for an academic year program

Why Choose an On The Map program?

The world is full of so many amazing travel opportunities, so why pick one of these destinations (aside from the scholarship perks)?

  • Overtourism. Avoid contributing to resource depletion, housing crises, and driving up cost of living in very high-volume study abroad destinations. and .

On the Map Scholarship FAQs

  1. Connect with our office to open the application for your program of choice in an On The Map eligible country

  3. Submit both applications by the application deadline, and your On The Map Scholarship will be applied!

You will automatically have your On The Map scholarship applied and you will also be considered for additional funding through the wider eligibility Buffs Abroad Scholarship.

All programs in one of the listed On The Map countries except faculty-led Global Intensives and Global Seminars are eligible. If you are considering a faculty-led program, there are still scholarship opportunities (including our broad eligibility ). Be sure to explore scholarships for faculty-led programs instead!

Absolutely! All federal, state, or institutional aid you receive will still apply, and when you submit your Buffs Abroad Scholarship application, you'll also be considered for additional need-based funding on top of your guaranteed On The Map Scholarship for your eligible program. You can also still apply for additional scholarships.

Semester Open Campus students can receive $1000 per block in an On The Map country for up to two blocks. For example:

  • 3 blocks in Monteverde, Costa Rica = $2000
  • 2 blocks in Monteverde, Costa Rica + 1 block in London = $2000
  • 1 block in Monteverde, 2 blocks in London = $1000Ìý
