Tara Knight is a filmmaker, animator, and media designer for live performance. Her broad range of media practices includes animated shorts, dance collaborations, world-premiere projection designs, visual reality, and media installations. Recently, her virtual reality 鈥淪ound Planetarium鈥 project appeared at the American Astronomy Society, 鈥渢he desire of a body鈥 at Dance on Camera in NYC, and 鈥淯nsettled鈥 at the Ottawa, Annecy, and Zagreb Animation Festivals with a Director鈥檚 Citation from the Thomas Edison Film Festival. Knight has collaboratively created over two dozen short, improvised, award-winning dance films including documenting the 鈥淭hink Gravity Dance Tank鈥 an intergenerational research gathering in 2022 through a dozen films, audio interviews, and more. Projection design for live performance includes 鈥淭he Great Wave鈥 (The Berkeley Rep, 2019), 鈥淏allast鈥 (Diversionary Theater, 2017), and 鈥淗ollywood!鈥 (La Jolla Playhouse, 2016). 鈥淭he Floating World鈥, a performance she co-created with Malashock Dance, was awarded an Emmy in 2011.
Knight began her career as an optical printing assistant, a painter on the films of animation pioneer Faith Hubley, and as an animation assistant for Emily Hubley on her short films and the cult hit 鈥淗edwig and the Angry Inch鈥. Knight received a B.A. from Hampshire College and an M.F.A. in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego. She is currently a Professor of Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado, 麻豆影院, as well as serving as the co-Director of NEST (Nature, Environment, Science & Technology) Studio for the Arts. At CU 麻豆影院 she received the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Outstanding Mentor Award in 2021, and the William Payden Award for Faculty Teaching and Research and Excellence in 2019.

MG Evangelista is a writer-director whose work spans narrative, branded, and documentary filmmaking, exploring themes of identity, power, and love. With a BFA in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego, Evangelista blends evocative imagery and drama with touches of levity. Their debut feature film, Burning Well, currently in development, has been supported by SFFILM Rainin, Tribeca, Array, the Torino Feature Film Lab and Film Independent鈥檚 Screenwriting Lab and Fast Track. The feature is based on their award-winning short film Fran This Summer playing in over thirty festivals including the Sundance Film Festival.
Evangelista was a USA Fellowship Award recipient and a participant in AFI鈥檚 DWW+ program, as well as the Warner Bros. Discovery Access Directors Program. Evangelista鈥檚 body of work includes La Gloria, a Film Independent Project Involve short film and VR dramedy Water Melts, supported by Tribeca and Google. Evangelista directed the award-winning short documentary They Call Me Suki and To Dance Again which premiered on Hulu and Amazon Prime, respectively. A fellow of the DGA and AICP's Commercial Directors Diversity Program, Evangelista has helmed spots for Jeep, Gucci, and GLAAD. Evangelista has an MFA in Writing and Directing from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where they were awarded the Tisch Graduate Fellowship in Cinematography.

View films by Stan Brakhage and other visionary experimental filmmakers on 16mm. Each screening features three short films organized around a shared question and is followed by a lively conversation.

The Brakhage Center is pleased to highlight Celebrating Stan, a monthly screening series curated by Professor Emeritus Suranjan Ganguly. Since 2003, the series has invited audiences to experience a free 90-minute program of Stan Brakhage's films on 16mm every first Sunday of the month. Celebrating Stan honors Brakhage's extraordinary body of work, comprising nearly 400 films, and his enduring influence on the history of cinema. Screenings are followed by an informal discussion.

seeds in a dying colony
The Brakhage Center is proud to partner with 听for Day With(out) Art 2026 by presenting seeds in a dying colony, a program of four newly commissioned videos that move through the afterlives of colonialism and the ongoing HIV epidemic. Across fractured histories and landscapes marked by extraction, the works trace how systems of power shape the body, memory, and experiences of care. The Brakhage Center听and Queer and Trans Studies are proud to partner with Visual AIDS.
