Digital Accessibility Summer Camp Recap

This June, we welcomed faculty, staff, and student staff from across the CU System, as well as a few local community colleges, to our first ever Digital Accessibility Summer Camp! This event was a two and a half day learning experience designed to build practical accessibility skills and strengthen our community of practice.

Camp Highlights

Our vision and approach for Summer Camp was to emphasize learning over expertise and encourage participants to "come as you are," welcoming those who are new to digital accessibility to more experienced practitioners.

Over the course of two and a half days, campers gathered at CU Â鶹ӰԺ for a mix of presentations, discussions, and workshops focused on creating more inclusive digital environments for our campus communities. Sessions covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Introduction to Assistive Technology
  • Manual versus Automated Accessibility and Usability Testing
  • Captioning and Audio Description
  • Document Accessibility Workshops
  • "Progress Over Perfection" Panel
  • And more!

We designed this event to feel less like a traditional conference and more like a collaborative retreat with an emphasis on the summer camp theme. We encouraged attendees to leave their business attire at home and join us in their comfortable camping attire, including a tie-dye themed day to celebrate classic summer camp vibes!

Thank You, Campers!

We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us this year. We loved connecting with everyone as we explored new skills, shared stories around the metaphorical campfire, and worked together to make the digital environment more accessible for our campus communities and partners.

Looking Ahead

We're already excited and planning next year's summer camp; hoping to extend the invite even further and encourage others to present. Until then, keep exploring, keep practicing, and keep championing digital accessibility in your work!
