We are looking for a postdoc!

A postdoctoral position is available in our group to work on our electron electric dipole moment (eEDM) experiment. The start date is negotiable, preferably late 2026 or early 2027.ÌýThe application and any questions may be sent to Eric Cornell, cornell@jila.colorado.edu . To apply please send a CV, a 2-4 page statement of research experience, a short cover letter, and the names of two professional references.Ìý We will review applications starting 15 June 2026 until the position is filled.

EDM with Molecular Ions

Cornell Sphere vs Egg

Ìý

The purpose of this experiment is to make a precision measurement of the electic dipole moment (EDM) of the electron. Because a finite electron EDM violates time symmetry, and thus by the CPT theorem violates CP symmetry as well, a precision upper bound on an electron EDM constrains modelbuilders. In this experiment we use trapped ThF+ molecular ions and use the intermolecular electric field to greatly enhance a potential electron EDM signal.
