This year’s symposium features Capstone projects from 25 student teams working to advance sustainability with Capstone partner organizations from Colorado and beyond. Students have been working hard to deliver new insights to their Capstone Partners over the last 10 months, and we are excited to invite you to celebrate their success with us!Ìý

We will be hosting five sessions throughout the event, beginning every half hour. During each session, student teams will present concurrently throughout the SEEC building. Each presentation will occur in-person and will be streamed (Zoom links for live streaming will be shared before the event to those who register).Ìý

This year’s symposium themes are:Ìý

Shaping Climate Resilience:ÌýÌý

As the climate crisis intensifies, all sectors of society are under increasing pressure to adapt and respond. Learn about cities across Colorado collaborating with students as they share data driven strategies designed to safeguard communities against increasing environmental risks by building adaptive capacity to protect infrastructure, public health, and local energy systems. This session includes projects focused on modeling air quality impacts from wildfires, how digital twins can prove the necessity of climate policies, and more.Ìý

Powering the Future:ÌýÌý

Colorado’s Ambitious climate goals of being 100% net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 can only be accomplished through changes to our energy systems and the built environment. Students will present their work on accelerating the transition to clean power, optimizing grid reliability, and decarbonizing municipal and corporate operations.Ìý

Cultivating Community Capacity:ÌýÌý

Community resilience starts from the ground up, with local action and accessible resources empowering communities. Student teams partnered with local non-profits, community leaders, and state agencies to cultivate solutions that nourish and protect neighborhoods. Projects include designing community led urban farms, mobilizing citizen scientists, and developing financial strategies to build climate resilient affordable housing.Ìý

Protecting Land and Water:Ìý

ÌýProtecting natural landscapes and watersheds requires a combination of scientific research, policy development, and community action. This session features students partnered with local open space departments, conservation districts, and global research organizations to defend ecosystems across Colorado and beyond. Projects include advancing environmental resilience by establishing stream flow recommendations for St. Vrain Creek, enhancing shark conservation, and designing wildlife crossings along a regional bikeway.ÌýÌý

Navigating Rural Transitions:ÌýÌý

Rural communities are often overlooked as major drivers of decarbonization yet are uniquely positioned on the frontlines of climate change. From navigating economic transitions to adapting to heightened climate risks, this session highlights students partnering with local governments, communities, and regional leaders. Projects include creating a framework to accelerate decarbonization in mountain communities, developing resiliency plans, and conducting regional economic and infrastructure analysis to support coal transition communities.ÌýÌý
